    The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is a diverse college campus with a large international student population. Our students come from diverse backgrounds in pursuit of academic and professional goals. To celebrate our international student population, and to highlight the importance of international education for both domestic and international students, we are hosting a week of events in November during International Education Week for students, staff and faculty. One of these events will be a showing os Brief Tender Light, a POV film, which highlights the lives of international students at American universities. We will watch the film with our audience, who will then engage with a panel of international students at various points in their academic lives for a lively discussion about the reality of studying abroad.

    WXXI invites the public to a free screening of Emergent City at the Little Theatre on November 18th at 6:30pm. Doors open at 6pm. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Brian Sharp, WXXI News Investigations & Enterprise Editor. A discussion with panelists and community members will discuss issues in the Rochester area involving development, neighborhood representation in planning and local issues like those raised in the film.

    The Ball State University Libraries’ film series “Reel Stories” explores the lives of individuals from varied cultural, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds as they navigate identity and belonging in contemporary society. Each film screening highlights personal stories that challenge assumptions and reveal the complexities of human experience across lines of difference. "Brief Tender Light" will focus on exploring the lives of the international students and faculty on our campus.

    This will be a free screening of the film, as part of a monthly film series entitled "This is What America Looks Like," which focuses on lesser known groups of people or issues that have impacted American history. Staff will introduce the film and the aspect of American history it discusses, and recommend reading materials for different age groups based on the themes of the film. Library attendees will receive 3D printed incentives for attending the event.
