The Tough Topics Documentary Film Series
    Western Illinois Museum
    201 S. Lafayette St.
    Illinois 61455
    The Neutral Ground
by CJ Hunt and Darcy McKinnon and Roy Wood Jr.

We are bringing back our Film Series that was launched in 2020 but was stalled due to the lockdown. The post-COVID series will focus on social issues our community is facing and the selected documentary films will explore topics such as racial inequality, accessibility for the handicapped, ethics related to opioids, and the lack of media representation in our communities. Each screening will include a facilitated conversation and a chance to socialize. For each film, a community organization that is familiar with the topic will assist with the conversation ensuring as many points of view are considered. The screenings will take place once a month and offered on two days to make them available to as many people as possible. The events are offered without charge; the Museum has a donation box at the door. An IL Humanities Road Scholar, Laura Sievert will present her program, "Storytelling for Civic Pride: There’s More Here" on June 15th at the Museum as part of a summer exploration of change movements, and the people who make them happen. "Neutral Ground" will provide more ideas for conversation around this exploration.
