Florida 34685American Seamsby Carly Jakins“American Seams”: PBS POV Summer Film & Conversation Date: Wednesday, July 8th, 2026 at 6pm In support of our summer reading theme of “Unearth a Story,” we are celebrating the stories of others by watching the PBS POV documentary, “American Seams," a film by Carly Jakins. East Lake Community Library invites the community to a free screening and conversation facilitated by library staff. This event is free and open to the public. Film: American Seams Explore the stories of three women quilters whose lives complement and contrast each other across stunning landscapes in rural Colorado, Utah, and the Navajo Nation of New Mexico. Filmmaker: Carly Jakins Runtime: 17 minutes This event is a collaboration with POV, the award-winning independent non-fiction film series on PBS www.pbs.org/pov. About POV: POV (a cinema term for “point of view”) is television’s longest-running showcase for independent nonfiction films. With the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, I would like to discuss the public American memory and who decides what/who will be memorialized and why. Each event in the series will begin with an introduction by staff and include a related book display with recommended reads for multiple ages.
