The Undocumented Women’s Fund (UWF), a New York City-based community organization focused on building a community care and organizing network for and by immigrant and undocumented women in NYC, is hosting a film series. To advance its mission, every summer since 2021, the UWF organizes a Bilingual (English-Spanish) Feminist Film Series in Washington Heights, our Spanish-speaking migrant neighborhood in New York City. Since then, our Feminist Film Series has become a space for collective enjoyment, community building, political education, and local/translocal exchange of organizing strategies. This summer, the cycle will give continuity to the slogan from the March 8th mobilization in the city ¨When migrant women stop, stop the world¨. In our research, we identified your film Hummingbirds as a film for us to show due to its relevance and acclaim. The Film Series will be free admission and will take place in a community park. We will host three screenings whereby each film will be shown and include a discussion after the film.

RISE UP (Resilience, Inclusion, Support, and Empowerment for Uniting People) is the first Family Enrichment Center in South Brooklyn and is operated by the Center for Family Life in Sunset Park (CFLSP). RISE UP seeks to collaborate with families in Sunset Park to co-design a space that amplifies community voices and strengthens connections to resources and support. This includes significant outreach to Sunset Park’s multi-lingual community, where Mandarin- and Spanish- speaking participants contribute to RISE UP’s initiatives, which include conversations on equity and advocacy with open-source data through our Community Study Circles, family support, and grassroots leadership development. As a part of this outreach, we aim to host a conversation with Mandarin-speaking community leaders, advocates and co-designers of RISE UP about Emergent City that provides an open space to share and disseminate new ideas which stem from the film. We intend to host this event at RISE UP, 341 39th Street, Sixth Floor, Suite 604, Brooklyn, NY 11232, on a date between September 22 and September 30. This event will not be open to the public and will consist of a brief introduction to the film, a screening of Emergent City and a discussion afterward. To ensure language access, Emergent City will be offered with Mandarin subtitles along with support from our Mandarin-speaking staff.
